Hey all,
Hope you are staying cool. Over to the right, the first photograph is from my 29th birthday. I was just into my first year of residency and my friends celebrated with me at a Thai restaurant, yum!
The second photograph is Shelley and me sitting in a line around from the entrance to the Chicago venue, Park West. The Indigo Girls performed with an eclectic group of women, and it rocked house!
Shelley's rocking on her own now in local venues around Chicagotown. Check her link below. She is working on her second album.
What's new with me: 2007
Working: I am the only residency-trained doc at North Island now. Our senior medical officer, who is also a family physician, will not be coming until Jan-Feb 2008, because they shipped him off to Afghanistan. He is very cool though. I am looking forward to working with him. The good news is that Tonda and Eileen, both nurse practitioners, are here for the long haul. The only two MA's left from when I started are Leanne and Susana. I still miss the others.
Playing: Busy with friends still, exercising, seeing great movies, going on more adventures, many, many Padre (baseball) games, going to afternoon tea with a great group of new friends;
Hiking: Hiked in the San Elijo Lagoon the second weekend of October with Chip and the gang. Before that, we also went to Sunset Cliffs again, and I met a new friend, Jan.
Family: I have a new nephew, Nicholas Jayden. He was born on April 14th, when I was on a camping trip near Julian. It hailed the Sunday morning. Parents are well--and cousins still having cute babies. A neverending source of glee for this aunt. Mark and Christine got married, and besides the flowers arriving late, it was just wonderful. Emotional, funny, fun! They are expecting a daughter in a couple weeks--I can't wait!
Reading: Peeps are we! Booklist this year: The Time Traveler's Wife~Audrey Niffenegger; For Kings and Planets~Ethan Canin, Interpreter of Maladies~Jhumpa Lahiri, True History of Kelly Gang~Peter Carey, 700 Sundays~Billy Crystal, The Hottest State~Ethan Hawke, Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal~Christopher Moore; The History of Love~Nicole Krauss; The Traveler's Gift ~Andy Andrews; A Good Year~Peter Mayle; Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress~Dai Sijie.
Travelling: 13-19 January 07 Ft. Lauderdale, Turks&Caicos Barenaked Ladies with Guster Ships & Dips cruise with Julie;
Music:
Sports: Many, many Padres games. I am a true fanatic now. Besides kind of watching the NFL playoffs and SuperBowl and the NHL/NBA playoffs. Baseball is my thing. Oh, that slow sport. But I love it.
Who knows what else? *wink*
Diane

A favorite quote “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ----from A Return to Love, by Marianne Williamson. Peace, Diane
